Ensuring good health during pregnancy

After being able to know that you are pregnant through pregnancy symptoms or through pregnancy tests, or maybe by directly consulting your doctor, your doctor might be able to prescribe you vitamins and supplements to support your pregnancy. It is therefore necessary that we are informed of the roles and functions of these vitamins and supplements to ensure good health during pregnancy not only of yourself as a mother but also of the baby inside the womb.

Doctors may not be able to prescribe the same brand of vitamins, but there are preferences. Nonetheless, they have the same functions and these can be recognized with the generic name. There are some vitamins which are very necessary to ensure good health during pregnancy and these will be discussed later in the topic.



There are two groups of vitamins, the fat soluble and the water soluble. Water soluble vitamins are not stored in the body therefore it is necessary that these are maintained and replenished. Vitamins that belongs to this category are the B group and C. Meanwhile the Vitamins A, D, E and K are fat-soluble. You have to remember the logic so as this will guide you to ensure good health during pregnancy.

Water soluble vitamins that belongs to the B group are the following:

Thiamine (B1)

Riboflavin (B2)

Niacin (B3)

Pantothenic Acid (B5)

Pyridoxine (B6)

Biotin (B7)

Folic Acid (B9)

Cyanocobalamin (B12)


You may research the functions of these but it is advise that you asked your doctor if you need a particular vitamins or a multivitamins to ensure good health during pregnancy.
